How does the Us Healthcare System Work?

The US healthcare system is mixture of privately and publicly funded care, provided by both for-profit and non-profit providers. Most people have private insurance, often paid in part by their employer. Elderly, disabled, and people with low income rely on government subsidized healthcare. The new healthcare law will require all people to purchase insurance, but the government will subsidize the cost for those of a certain income level.The US healthcare system is very expensive and provides relatively little access for most people when compared to the cost. The quality of US care for most people is poor compared to other industrialized nations, based on such factors as the country's high infant mortality rate, high maternal mortality rate, and lower disability adjusted life expectancy.
